PHOTOJOURNALIST GANG RAPED IN MUMBAI

The Mumbai police probing into the shocking gangrape of a 23-year-old woman photojournalist here has picked up about 20 people for questioning but obtained no leads in the case so far, even as it has formed special teams to investigate into the matter, police said today.'So far about 20 suspects have been grilled but we could not get any lead. Our efforts are on to track down the accused,' a police officer involved in the probe, told PTI.A special squad has been formed by the local police as well as by the Crime Branch to probe into the case and investigators have fanned out across the city to trace the accused.The 23-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by five men in Parel area in central Mumbai last night, police said.The incident took place at around 8 pm near Shakti Mills in Lower Parel area when the 23-year-old woman, working withan English magazine, was on an assignment, doing a story on 'chawl', they said.'The victim had gone, along with her friend to the ShaktiMills to take some photographs..it was evening time. And,there the two boys...and based on the statements given by them(others detained in the case for questioning), three more mencame, who then raped her,' Mumbai police commissioner SatyapalSingh said.In a chilling reminder of the Decemeber gangrape in Delhi,the men tied up the victim's friend and raped the woman.Police have also prepared the sketches of two of the five
suspects in the gangrape case. The sketches will be releasedsoon, police said.The victim has been admitted to Jaslok Hospital.Preliminary reports suggested that she has sustained multipleinternal injuries, they said.Dr Taran Gyanchandani, acting CEO of the hospital, said,'We are doing the needful...she is under strict observation.At the moment we can't say anything.'A gangrape case has been registered in N M Joshi Margpolice station.The statement of the victim's friend has been recorded,police said.They claimed the victim has identified two of the accusedby their names. The girl told police that two of them werecalling each other as Rupesh and Sajid, they said, adding thatsome drug addicts have been picked up from the area forquestioning.Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil visited thevictim at Jaslok hospital.'This is a very serious matter. We have taken note of it.The accused will be arrested soon,' Patil told reporters
outside the hospital.He said Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh has beendirected to ensure that the culprits are arrested soon

മില്ലിന്റെ ഫോട്ടോയെടുക്കാന്‍ അനുവാദം വേണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ അഞ്ചംഗ സംഘം ഇവരെ സമീപത്തെ ഒരു മുറിയിലേയ്ക്ക് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയാണ് ആക്രമിച്ചത്. രാത്രി പത്തു മണിയോടെ ഇവിടെ നിന്നു രക്ഷപ്പെട്ട യുവതി ജസ്‌ലോക് ആസ്പത്രിയില്‍ ചികിത്സ തേടിയെത്തിയപ്പോഴാണ് വിവരം പുറത്തറിഞ്ഞത്. ജോഷി മാര്‍ഗ് പോലീസ് കേസ് രജിസ്റ്റര്‍ ചെയ്ത് അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചു.സംശയത്തെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് പോലീസ് ഇരുപത് പേരെ കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുത്തു. ഇവരെ ചോദ്യംചെയ്തുവരികയാണ്. ഇതില്‍ രണ്ടുപേരെ യുവതി തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുണ്ട്. പ്രതികളില്‍ രണ്ടുപേര്‍ പരസ്പരം രൂപേഷ് എന്നും സാജിത് എന്നും വിളിക്കുന്നത് കേട്ടുവെന്നും യുവതി പോലീസിന് മൊഴി നല്‍കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മയക്കുമരുന്ന് ഉപയോഗക്കാരുടെ കേന്ദ്രമാണ് മഹാലക്ഷ്മി കോമ്പൗണ്ട്.

മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രി ആര്‍ .ആര്‍ .പാട്ടീല്‍ ആസ്പത്രിയില്‍ യുവതിയെ സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ചു. മൂന്ന് ദിവസം മുന്‍പ് ട്രെയിനിലെ ഫസ്റ്റ് ക്ലാസ് കമ്പാര്‍ട്ട്‌മെന്റില്‍വച്ച് ഒരു അമേരിക്കന്‍ യുവതിയെ അജ്ഞാതസംഘം ബലാത്സംഗം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. മറീന്‍ ലൈന്‍സിനും ചര്‍ണി റോഡ് സ്‌റ്റേഷനുമിടയില്‍വച്ചായിരുന്നു സംഭവം.
