 WATER LEVEL INCREASING

Water resources minister P J Joseph expressed apprehensions over the increasing levels in the Mullaperiyar dam.Leakages were detected in the dam and this would be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court, he said. Officials were given direction to handle the safety and security aspect. Tamil Nadu has been asked to draw more water from the dam, the minister said.

On Tuesday night, the capacity at the Mullaperiyar touched 134.8 feet. Leakage was found in the 18th block of the dam. The leakage was inspected under the supervision of executive engineer of the Water department George Daniel. More leakages are likely to happen if the water level further increases.
