SOFTWARE LIGHTS UP THE FUTURE OF VISUALLY CHALLENGED
Visually-challenged girls, who completed training at the resource centre of Rotary Club of Cochin Global-SRVC Foundation at Infopark, can’t hide their excitement as they face Ranjini Haridas.
Visually-challenged girls, who completed training

It was a proud moment for members of the Society for Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged (SRVC), who, in association with the Rotary Club of Cochin Global (RCG), completed the training of 50 visually challenged students in various job-oriented skills, at the resource centre set up at Vismaya, at the Infopark in Kochi. The students were put into eight batches.
To witness the completion of the training enabled by a software titled Job Access With Speech (JAWS), four eminent personalities had come to Infopark. They were Infopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair, Sunrise Hospital managing director Parveen Hafiz, television celebrity Ranjini Haridas and CGH Earth CEO Jose Dominic. They commended the students for their achievement and also SRVC and the Rotary Club.
The skills imparted were in sectors like call centres, customer service, back office and tele-marketing. They were empowered in the field of computers, mobility and communicative English. Some of the students of the previous batches have already been employed in firms including Sunrise Hospital, Hotel Taj Vivanta and Hotel Le Meridian.“They are capable of executing desk jobs and the visually-challenged should be brought out of seclusion and our efforts have been towards that”, said M.C.Roy, project director at RCG-SRVC Centre.Director Siddique told the students that they had the rare gift of focusing on what they were doing without getting distracted and they should make maximum use of it.Those selected for training should have a plus-two pass and are in the age group of 20-30.The tuition, board and lodging are free. The NCVT has certified the programme while CDIT is processing it.
