SCHOOL
ROOF COLLAPSED
.More than 30 children were injured, eight of them seriously,
when the tiled roof of an upper primary school collapsed in heavy rain at
Chelupadam in Chelembra panchayat on Monday,17th July,2013,
afternoon. Sources said the roof of Class 5-C of Alikutty Moulavi Memorial
Aided Mapila UP School, Chelupadam, collapsed at 12.15 p.m The roof of Class
5-B also collapsed partly in the heavy rain. Rasiya, teacher who was taking a
class at the time of the incident, was suffered injuries.Local people who
carried out the rescue operations rushed the injured children to private
hospitals close by in buses, jeeps and autorickshaws. The workers of a private
buses plying between Chelembra and Feroke helped in rescue work.Eight seriously
injured students were later shifted to Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.
The other students were admitted to Red Crescent Hospital,
Chungam, and Koyas Hospital, Cheruvannur.Those who suffered serious injuries
were Fatima Anna (daughter of Mohammed Ashraf),;M.V. Rifaqat (daughter of Abdul
Rafeek),;Aysha Nida (daughter of K.K. Ashraf); Raseena, Lubana (daughter of
K.P. Shabeer); Dashita (daughter of Akbar Ali); Shifila (daughter of T.
Mustafa); and Rafleena (daughter of Abdul Latheef)..Parents of the school
protested against the school management’s failure in renovating the old
building.Tirurangadi Circle Inspector A. Umesh said the police had charged a
case against the school manager Rasheed.
