Thampy, former head of the Department of Malayalam at the Catholicate College here, to Malayalam language and literature were immense, said Kuriakose Mar Cleemis, Metropolitan of the Thumpamon diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church.The Metropolitan was delivering the keynote address at the Prof. K.V. Thampy commemoration meet organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists at the Press Club hall  Pathanamthitta on Tuesday,11th June,2013.Mar Cleemis said Prof. Thampy, who passed away due to old age-related illness at a private hospital at his home town of Mulanthuruthy on June 6, was a multi-faceted literary personality who had no parallel in his field of activity.
Addressing the meeting, V.K. Jayakumar, former Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Department, said Prof. Thampy’s Malayalam translation of Khalil Gibran’s classic ‘Prophet’ was a unique literary work.V.K. Ravivarma Thampuran, Malayala Manorama Assistant Editor; George Varghese Koppara, Principal of Catholicate College; A. Gokulendran, former secretary of Bookmark; Vinod Elakolloor, KUWJ district vice-president; S. Rajeevan and Venu, social workers, also spoke.Sanu George Thomas, KUWJ district president, presided over the function and Biju Kurien, secretary, welcomed the gathering.Prof. Thampy had a long acquaintance with Pathanamthitta where he stayed for nearly 50 years, during his career as an academic and a journalist. He was leading a retired life at a retirement home at Kandanad, near Mulanthuruthy, for the past two years.
