Spelling bees have become very popular in recent years. Movies, a successful broadway play, and a primetime TV broadcast of the Scripps National Spelling Bee moved this tradition into the spotlight again.The trend is expanding from the US into other countries: Teachers hold class or school competitions. Adults compete in spelling bees for entertainment or fundraising events. Other English-speaking countries launch their own events.Arvind Mahankali from New York has scripted history by winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee for the year 2013, becoming the sixth Indian-American to win the title in a row.“The words were extremely hard. It means that I am retiring in a good mood,” Arvind said after winning the prestigious national championship.This is the sixth consecutive year that an Indian-American has won the tournament, which was watched live by millions of people in the United States.A grade eight student, Arvind, 13, loves maths and science and plans to pursue a career as a physicist.Arvind had finished ninth in 2010 and third place in both 2011 and 2012.

മൂന്നാംസ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. ആറ് പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പടെ 15 ഇന്ത്യന്‍
വംശജരാണ് ഇത്തവണ സെമിയിലെത്തിയത്. ഇവരില്‍ ആറുപേര്‍ പെണ്‍കുട്ടികളായിരുന്നു.കൊളറാഡോയിലെ
ഹിമാന്‍വി കപൂരി, ഫ്ലോറിഡയിലെ നിഖിത ചന്ദ്രന്‍ , കാന്‍സസിലെ വന്യ ശിവശങ്കര്‍ ,
മിഷിഗനിലെ നേഹ ശേഷാദ്രി, ടെക്‌സസിലെ ശോഭ ദസ്‌റി, യൂട്ടയിലെ വിസ്മയ കാര്‍ക്കാര്‍
എന്നിവരാണ് സെമിയില്‍ മത്സരിച്ച പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ . മിഷിഗണിലെ കുവാം ഷഹാനി, മിസൂറിയില്‍നിന്നുള്ള ഗോകുല്‍ വെങ്കിടാചലം, ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കില്‍നിന്നുള്ള
റാന്‍ദേവാനന്ദന്‍ , ശ്രീരാം ഹത്വാര്‍ , ഒഹായോയിലെ അശ്വിന്‍ വീരമണി, ന്യൂജഴ്‌സിയിലെ
ആദിത്യ റാവു, ടെക്‌സസിലെ ചേതന്‍ റെഡ്ഡി എന്നിവരാണ് സെമിയില്‍നിന്ന് വിജയിച്ച ആണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍.
