KONKANI LANGUAGE
Konkani is an Indo Aryan Language belonging to the Indo European family of
languages and is spoken on the western coast of India. It is one of the 22
scheduled languages mentioned in 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution and the official language of the
Indian state of Goa, and a
minority language in Karnataka and northern Kerala ( Kasaragod
district.The Konkani community had reasons to cheer on Saturday,2nd
March,2013 when Chief Minister Oommen Chandy assured the full backing of the
State government in promoting Konkani culture and literature.After inaugurating
the Konkani Sahithya Akademi here, Mr. Chandy said it was the bounden duty of
the State to extend support to minority communities.
He said
Konkani language and literature held importance and hoped the new akademi would
give it a boost. Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph presided. Mayor Tony
Chammany, Dominic Presentation, MLA, and District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth
were present.
