KSRTC HIKED AGAIN
Indian Oil Corporation has increased the
diesel prices for KSRTC once again increasing the liabilities of the state-run
road transport unit by more than Rs 2 crore per month. An amount of Rs 1.19 was
increased in the diesel price on the last day of the last month. While others
paid Rs 50.30 per liter Friday, KSRTC paid Rs 63.69. This is the second
time that Indian Oil Corporation is hiking the diesel price for KSRTC. Rs 1.80
had been increased earlier. With the latest diesel price hike KSRTC will incur
an additional cost of Rs 6,97,500 per day. IOC cites increase in oil prices in
the international market for the diesel price hike for KSRTC. On an average,
KSRTC needs four and a half liters of diesel per day.
Establishments, which buy diesel in bulk quantities, were exempted from subsidy, since January 18 when the diesel price was deregulated. The diesel price was increased by Rs 10 at that time. Though Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Electricity Minister Arayadan Muhammed had held talks with the oil companies, it had produced no results.
