Mavelikara is all set to host the Kerala
University Youth Festival as it gets under way in the town on Wednesday ,27th
February,2013,afternoon.More than 3,000 participants from 213 colleges under
the University will compete in 65 items in the fete. Film actors, Nedumudi
Venu, Navya Nair and Asokhan, all hailing from the district will jointly light
the traditional lamp to mark the inauguration of the fete at a function at 5
p.m. on Wednesday.A procession proclaiming the fete was taken out from the
Mavelikara KSRTC bus stand to the main venue of the festival, Bishop Hodges HSS
ground, which is named as A. R. Rajaraja Varma Nagar, on Tuesday. Mavelikara
municipal chairman, K. R. Muraleedharan flagged off the procession. R. Rajesh,
MLA, hoisted the flag of the fete at the A. R. Rajaraja Varma Nagar after the
procession concluded there.
The memories of the great writer, A. R.
Rajaraja Varma, known better as ‘Kerala Panini,’ lingers at the main venue of
the fete named after him as the 150-th birth anniversary of the writer is also
being organised. Other personalities after whom the venues are named include
actor, Narendra Prasad, poet, D.Vinaya Chandran, Artist, Mavelikara Krishnan
Kutty Nair, social activist, Sukumar Azhikode, writer, Parappurath and theatre
thespian, Thoppil Bhasi.The contests will be held on February 28, March 1 and
2. The concluding function will be held on March 3. Union Minister of State for
Labour Kodikkunnil Suresh will be the chief guest and film actor Ezhupunna
Baiju will be participating in the valedictory function. The various venues are
Bishop Moore College Auditorium, Peet Memorial Training College Hall, Peet
Memorial Training College Hall, Raja Ravi Varma Fine Arts College Hall, Bishop
Hodges HSS Ground, Government Bishop Hodges HSS Auditorium, and Government TTI
Auditorium.
