JANAMAITHRI SCHEME
The Janamaithri Suraksha project, the community policing scheme of the State police, will be extended to 100 more police stations, 50 of them tribal stations.As many as 148 stations have been implementing the scheme, launched at 20 stations in 2007 on a pilot basis. In phase two of the scheme, 21 more police stations started implementing it in 2009. Thereafter, following the good response, the other stations introduced it.The State government has given administrative sanction now for its extension on a recommendation of the State Police Chief. A sum of Rs. 2 crore has been provided under the Plan scheme for 2012 for the scheme and financing its extension.The scheme will be introduced at the stations at Museum, Peroorkada, Poojappura, Thiruvallam, Vanchiyoor, Vattiyurkavu, Vizhinjam, Karamana and Sreekaryam in Thiruvananthapuram city and Balarampuram in the rural limits. The tribal stations in the district to introduce it are in Palode, Vithura and Aryanadu.
Pallithottam, Kollam West, Anchalumoodu, Sakthikulangara, Eravipuram and Kilikollur in Kollam city and Pathanapuram in the rural limits of the district figure on the list.The tribal stations in Kollam are in Kulathupuzha and Thenmala. In Ernakulam city, the scheme will be extended to the stations at Ernakulam North, Ernakulam South, Kalamassery, Panangad, Thrikkakara, Eloor, Harbour and Mattancherry. Aluva West and Chottanikkara figure on the list from Ernakulam Rural.The tribal station is at Kuttampuzha.The stations at Guruvayur, Mannuthy and Viyyur in Thrissur city and at Vadanapally in the rural limits will implement the scheme, along with the tribal stations at Peechi, Vellikulangara and Athirappilly.The stations at Chevayur, Elathur, Kozhikode town, Medical College and Nallalam have been selected from Kozhikode city and Meppayur from the rural limits.The tribal police stations in Kozhikode district are at Thottilpalam, Thiruvambadi, Kodencherry and Valayam.Structured to prevent crime and encourage cooperation of the police and the public in security matters, the project envisages strengthening the police by obtaining the support of the local community.
