E. AHAMED RE-ELECTED AS IUML

Union Minister of state for External Affairs E Ahamed was today,2nd December,222012, re-elected as national President of Indian Union Muslim League. K M Kader Mohideen (TN) and Kerala Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty were elected as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively at the party's two-day National Executive Meeting which concluded here today. The meeting also elected Iqbal Ahmed (UP) and Dastgheer Agha (Karnataka) as Vice Presidents. E T Mohammed Basheer, MP (Ker), Abdul Samad Samadhani, MLA (Ker), Khorrum Anis Omer (Delhi), S Naim Akhtar (Bihar) and Shahinsha Jahangir (West Bengal) are the new Secretaries, Ahmed told reporters. Shamim Sadiq (Maha), M Mateen Khan (UP), Siraj Ebrahim Sait (Karnataka), Abdul Basith (TN) and Sharfuddin Ansari (Rajasthan) are the Assistant Secretaries. On the violence between Bodos and Muslims in Assam, the meeting in a resolution said "the IUML records its deep anguish and anxiety over the sad plight of Muslims in Assam'. "IUML urges the government of India to direct the state government to initiate steps to seize all illegal arms from Bodo militants through combing operation in Kokrajhar in Assam', it said. 

"We urge the government to take positive action to enable the people to return to their homes. Nobody should be allowed to take law in their hands and unleash inhuman atrocities, it said. On 'security of minorities', it said "IUML stands solidly behind the government to defend the national integrity and security." In another resolution, the meeting said "it is a matter of shame for a country having democratic moorings and traditions to see so many innocent youths languishing in jails deprived of even the elementary right to be heard in a country of law". "Indiscriminate detention of youths for years even without trials and fake encounters are bane of our system that warrants judicious interventions of government the courts of law", the resolution said. 'These unwarranted and unjustifiable detentions make Muslim youths frustrated and alienated and may provide ample ground for them to become angry rebels and extremists", it said. The recommendations of Sachar Committee for setting up an all India service for management of Wakf boards and Justice Ranganath Misra Commission report on Religious and Linguistic Minorities would be implemented without delay, the meeting urged the government.
