KARACHI: Pakistan on Monday dethroned India by beating their traditional rivals 40-31 in an exciting finale of the 2nd Asia Kabaddi Cup 2012 at the Punjab Stadium in Lahore.
The end of the decider was controversial as India staged a bitter protest over a decision of the referee around ten minutes from time. India stuck to their protest, forfeiting a few points which resulted in the win in favour Pakistan.An official of the India Kabaddi Federation also criticised the refereeing standard and pointed out that what had been done was the weakness of the Indian federation as it did not ensure the services of neutral referees in the event Earlier, in front of around 25,000 crowd, Pakistan were off to a fine start when Sajjad Gujar and Shafiq Butt put the hosts 3-0 ahead. However, India skipper reduced his team’s deficit in style. At one stage, when Pakistan were leading 7-2, Pakistan captain Musharraf Javed Janjua and Indian raider crossed the line while overlapping each other which sparked protest in the Indian camp which also forced the jury to award common point to both the sides.
But soon after Pakistan’s star raider Obaidullah scored a point to increase the hosts lead. India tried their level best to reduce the deficit but the defending champions failed to stop Pakistan from maintaining the lead as the hosts were leading 22-16 at the end of first half. Janjua led from the front as he earned a few valuable points for his team by displaying fine gripping ability.India took a point soon after the breather but the hosts replied strongly through Obaidullah who scored a controversial point. Either sides was playing with great aggression but Pakistan kept maintaining four and five points lead as till second drink interval at the mid stage of the second half, Pakistan were 35-29 ahead.After refreshment, the gruelling battle continued as the hosts were not ready to let India score constantly. At this stage, a controversy started over a decision of the referee which forced the jury in the end to declare Pakistan as champions.
The winners were handed over Rs1.5 million, a glittering trophy and gold medals.Earlier, Iran, who have played in two World Cup finals, defeated Nepal 72-27 to clinch the bronze with six points which they recorded after scoring three victories in the six-team event. Nepal were the only side who failed to register any win, ending at rock bottom.In the other game, Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan 51-42 to clinch fourth place with four points while the losers ended at the fifth spot with a single 53-32 victory over Nepal.Initially six teams were scheduled to feature and the event was planned to hold under round robin league system but after the pull out of Indonesia at the eleventh hour the organisers had to alter the format, changing it into pure single league system.

ഏഷ്യന്‍ കബഡിയില്‍ ഇന്ത്യക്ക് കിരീടം നഷ്ടമാവുന്നത്. ലൈന്‍ തീരുമാനങ്ങള്‍ ഇന്ത്യക്കെതിരായതില്‍ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ച് രണ്ടുവട്ടം കളത്തിലിറങ്ങിയ ഗൂര്‍മല്‍ മൂന്നാം വട്ടം ഇറങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ പ്രതിഷേധവുമായി പാകിസ്താനി താരങ്ങളും രംഗത്തുവന്നു. റഫറി മത്സരം തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുന്നെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയായിരുന്നു ഇത്. ഇതോടെ ചൂടേറിയ വാഗ്വാദമായി. ഒടുവില്‍ മത്സരം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ താരങ്ങള്‍ കളംവിട്ടു. പാകിസ്താനെ വിജയികളായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. കളി തീരാന്‍ 10 മിനിറ്റ് മാത്രം ബാക്കിനില്‍ക്കേ, 39-31ന് പാകിസ്താന് മുന്നിലായിരുന്നു. ഈ സമയത്ത് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ താരം തുടരെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ റെയ്ഡിനിറങ്ങി സാങ്കേതികപ്പിഴവ് വരുത്തി. പാക് താരങ്ങള്‍ തെറ്റ് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. റഫറി പാകിസ്താന് അനുകൂലമായി ഒരു പോയന്റ് വിധിച്ചു. ഗൂര്‍മലും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ താരങ്ങളും പ്രതിഷേധിച്ചു. കോച്ചിന് പച്ചക്കൊടി കിട്ടിയത് ഈ സമയത്താണ്. മത്സരസമയം ചോര്‍ന്നുപോയതാടെ പാകിസ്താന് വിജയം ഉറപ്പിച്ചു. മത്സരത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുവരാന്‍ സമയമില്ലെന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ താരങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ബോധ്യമായിരുന്നു. അഞ്ച് ദിവസത്തെ ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റില്‍ ഇറാന്‍, അഫ്ഗാനിസ്താന്‍, ശ്രീലങ്ക, ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്, മാലെദ്വീപ്, നേപ്പാള്‍ ടീമുകള്‍ മത്സരിച്ചിരുന്നു.
