In almost every country, the proportion of people aged over 60 years is growing faster than any other age group, as a result of both longer life expectancy and declining fertility rates. The palliative care needs of older people are complex and often neglected. The issue is globally applicable and incorporates older people living with life-limiting diseases as well as the issue of older people as carers of people with life-limiting illness in developing countries.World Hospice an

A walkathon was held Kochi on Wednesday10th October,2012, to mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on October 13. School, college students and others took part in the walkathon organised by Alpha Pain Clinic.The walkathon from the Marine Drive Helipad to the Fine Arts Hall was flagged off by district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnapillil.P.S. Sukumaran, president, Alpha volunteers’ council, Kochi, welcomed the gathering. Hibi Eden, MLA; B. Bhadra, deputy mayor; Sebastian Paul, former MP; District Medical Officer Junaid Rahman; George Alexander Muthoot, managing director, Muthoot Group, were among those who participated.Various presentations were made at a seminar on ‘Students for palliative care.’
