COOKING GAS- BPCL DELIVERS A SHOCKER TO CONSUMERS

COOKING GAS- BPCL DELIVERS A
SHOCKER TO CONSUMERS

Residents of apartment complexes fitted with reticulated gas systems are in for a shock with oil companies deciding to treat them as a single connection. The system involves a piped network in an apartment complex that supplies cooking gas direct to the kitchens from a pool of cylinders.
All apartments currently using the system will be eligible for only six subsidised cylinders every year. All additional cylinders connected to the pool will cost the apartments Rs 928 each. The BPCL has already directed the gas agencies to implement the directive. Apartment owners and builders are aghast at the directive of the oil companies which according to them is violative of rights as citizens.

They point out that several builders implemented the reticulated supply system at the behest of oil companies. Consumers who moved into such apartments were also advised by the companies to surrender the cylinders registered in their name to go for common piped connection. The apartment owners are now planning to move the court against the order which they consider as unjust.
