UTTRUTTATHI BOAT RACE

(Uthruttathi boat race: Edasserimala, Thaimaravumkara win)

The boats, Edasserimala and Thaimaravumkara have won the Mannam Trophy in the finals of the A and B batches respectively in the famed Aranmula Uthruttathi boat race here Sunday.Thaimaravumkara boat is winning the trophy for the second time in a row this year. In all, 48 boats had participated in the race.The water fest began as the sacred flame lit from Parthasarathi Temple was taken to the pavilion. The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Acting Chief Justice of the High Court, Manjula Chelloor, Ministers, Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan, Addor Prakash, A.P.Anil Kumar, etc attended the event.

Unlike other boat races, Uthruttathi water festival gives importance to rituals and traditions of the culture
