Kallada boat race
The snake-boat Sree Ganesh of the Saint
Francis Boat Club, captained by Sabu Pattakadavu, won the 43rd Kallada Boat
Race held along the 1,400-metre course of the Kallada river from Muthiraparambu
to Karuthrakadavu on Wednesday,26th September,2012.In the finals, Sree Ganesh
cheered by hundreds of spectators from either banks of the river touched the
finishing point at 6.15 p.m. The snake-boat Aanari of the Jesus Boat Club,
captained by Fr. Felix Muppasseril, came second and Jawahar Thayankari of the
Sangam Kanetti Club, captained by Nazar Pochayil, came third.The rowers of Sree
Ganesh maintained the lead from the start. The winner was presented the Kallada
trophy, Kundara Vilambara trophy, and the Narayanan Achary Memorial ever
rolling trophy. Kodikummil Suresh, MP, presented the trophies to the winners.The
presence of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin added colour to
the race. Inaugurating the boat race, he said Kerala was captivating and the
boat race overwhelming.
