JANASREE MISSION
Defense minister AK Antony stated that UDF would encourage Janasree and Kudumbasree equally. Various missions should co-operate for the development of state, he added.Focusing on the need for small-scale industries, Antony pointed out that the state lacks sufficient land in order to implement large-scale industries. Every village should become a small-scale industry unit, Antony said. Oommen Chandy has said that a silent economic revolution was taking place in the State through micro financing programmes which would give financial independence to those who need it most. Inaugurating the district-level loan distribution scheme and ‘kudumba sangamam,’ (family get-together) of Janasree Susthira Vikasana Mission here on Tuesday, he said that mission was not trying to compete against Kudumbasree, the poverty alleviation programme of the State Government.Mr. Chandy said that Kudumbasree aimed at the uplift of women in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category where as Janasree Mission aimed at the welfare of family members. Though, Kudumbasree has undergone changes with non-BPL members also joining it, the LDF government failed in taking any concrete step to strengthen Kudumbasree, he said and added that the fund allotted by the UDF government in 2005- ’06 remained unutilised. He alleged that the Finance Minister Thomas Isaac was trying to sabotage Janasree Mission which has wide appeal among the masses. He said more funds and operational freedom should be given to Kudumbasree.
Janasree Susthira Vikasana Mission State chairman M. M. Hassan presided over the function in which bank representatives and members of the mission attended. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) secretaries Benny Behnan and E. M. Augusthy and Idukki district president P. T. Thomas spoke at the function.
