TRAVELLING PEACE ACADEMY ON TOA COLOURFUL START
We had a colourful start for the week long URI Traveling peace Academy training here in India yesterday. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan inaugurated the program at a meeting attended by over 200 people. Bishop Thomas Mar Timotheos presided. Sally Mahe (U.S.A), Ian Fry (Australia), Ravi
Kandage(Sri Lanka), Emmanuel Evorgba(Nigeria),Francis Halder (Bangladesh), Swami Vasudeva Rao(GC member, Multi Region), Niyambura Mundia(JKenya), Lukia Kaweski (Uganda) and others offered felicitations during the public meeting. A scintillating performance on Tabala by our Indian coordinator Biswadeb Chakraborthi was a highlight of the day. Other participants include Hira Paul Gagnegi (coordinator, North India), Abu Taher (Dhaka University), Varun Agarwal (Vedanta Institue, Calcutta),Irene Petricia, Lakna Harindi, Chandrika Nayana and Thomadura Rasika (Sri Lnaka),
Sowmya Ayyar (Yoga Trainer from Bangalore), C.N. N. Raju (Bangalore),Ashwani Kumar (Patiala), Kaushil Chatterjee (Calcutta) Leya Varghese, Annie Lagi and  Greshma P Raju, Kerala.First day was started with Yoga Training at 6.30 by Sowmya Ayyar, followed by morning walk by the side of Ithikkara river and writing morning pages after that, which are part of the daily rhythm. After sacred opening by the Indians, Sally and myself then introduced the TPA and gave an overview about the program for the week. Two study books were also introduced viz. "The Moral Imagination: the Arty and Soul of Peace Building"  by John Paul Lederach and "Super Souls Revisited by Abraham Karickam.
Four Peace Building stories were narrated thereafter. How a few women in Wagir (Kenya) stopped a war was the first. How the City Montessori school in India came to be recognized by UNESCO and how they figured in the Guinnes Book of World Records, through peace building initiatives was the second story. The third narration was about two girls from Sri Lanka who brought truce between two fighting villages in their own warn torn country. And the last was from Africa again, which was about an electrifying experience that happened during the mediation between two warring tribal factions in Ghana, due to the fantastic approach of a young proponent. A warm reception was given to the participants at the Karickam International Public School, where children greeted them with coconut drinks and a host of cultural performances. And a visit to URI Regional office was very rewarding and the day came to an end with dinner at our residence, where almost all memebrs of the cosmic Community CC and a few leaders from other CCs were present.
