ONAM GREETINGS

The President and Vice President Tuesday,28th August,2012, greeted the nation on the eve of Onam, which marks the beginning of the harvest season. President Pranab Mukherjee in his message said, "On the joyous occasion of Onam, I offer my warm felicitations and heartiest greetings to all my brothers and sisters belonging to Kerala." He said the festival brings out the rich cultural heritage of Kerala in its best form and spirit. "May this harvest festival instill in us the spirit of national integration and inspire us to work for further development of our country," Mukherjee said. Vice President M Hamid Ansari said Onam plays an important role in uniting people. He wished that the festival "may usher in peace, prosperity and happiness in the society and contribute in the nation's progress". 
  Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today greeted Malayalees on the occasion of Onam. In a statementon29th August,2012,, he said Onam gives out the message of love and prosperity.  
Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa greeted Malayalees on the occasion of Onam, saying the festival emphasises the high ideals of living together without arrogance and without caste or religious differences. In his greetings, the Governor said "may Onam, the Harvest Festival which marks festivities, strengthen the bonds of unity and usher in peace and harmony and bring about all round development in the state and the nation". Extending her greetings, the Chief Minister said the festival emphasised the high ideals that "hunger, disease and enmity should be completely eradicated and people should live together without arrogance and without caste or religious differences". In his message, DMK chief M Karunanidhi said the festival reminds the people of nurturing qualities like love, peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
