Chilanthiyar is reachable by Bodinayakkanur RailWay Station , Teni RailWay Station , Andipatti RailWay Station , Udumalaippettai RailWay Station , . Its main Village Panchayat is Vattavada Panchayat . From Munnar the buses are available to reach Chilanthiyar .But the bus service is not very often .The bus route is via Top station .The soil of the top station is best for the vegetation and the people who lives here have vegetation in their courtyard. All seasonal vegetables like carrot, cabbage, potato all grows here.We can see rare species of animals too .During the season Top station will be drenched in snow. The nights will be extreme cold. The road to Chilanthiyar and Kudalar starts from top station .These areas are occupied by tribal people. There is a place called Pazhathottam between Top station and Chilanthiyar .From this place to Chilanthiyar human  is rare to be seen but we can see farms where vegetables grow .we can see watch towers made for the protection of the vegetation too .By reaching Chilanthiyar we can see few houses .This is a tribal area and the Muduvans , who are the tribal here make their living by menial jobs .The houses are made of mud .The climate is very cold and people protect themselves by covering them I n woolen .Years back this place was a forest area .Wild animals like leopard , elephant , were here .And the place was covered with meadows .
Water is extreme cold and most morning snow falls .Main mode of transportation is jeep .This place we can see Neelakkurinji too .Muduvan people are not a friendly people. They have their own distinct way of living .They use to tie the kid on to their back in rob that’s how they got the name Muduvan .They are believed to be the soldiers of King of Madhura and it is been believed that they carried the idol of Madhura Meenakshi on their back .There is a Ganapathi temple here and during the festival season people used to plant plantain here but wild elephant comes and destroys that .No one can ever define this phenomena. Chilanthiyar was noted as place for Ganja cultivation and t became a serious issue and the forest guards and police officials totally destroyed that .
There are seven tribes here and most of them are trying to embrace education and there are families who has send their kids for education outside their place .There is a small temple of Lord Siva.We can see the idols of ShreeMahaganapathy and snake gods .Idol of elephants also seen here .There is a mountain route towards Kanthalloor .But it requires prior permission to go there .That place comes under Anamudi National Park .By Air :Nearest airport .Kochi International AirportBy Train: Nearest railway station Kochi By Bus :From Kochi there are plenty of buses plying to Munnar .And from Munnar regular buses are not available to top station.
