JOSEPH SAMUEL -KERALA BOY COMING THIRD AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL IN THE CLASS 12 EXAMINATIONS-2012
Joseph Samuel has done it for Kerala. By coming third at the national level in the Class 12 examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), this boy from Kulanada, near Pandalam, has given the State more reasons to cheer after Kalyani Vishnu of Thiruvananthapuram came first among the students who wrote the Indian School Certificate examination in India this year.He attributes his success to regular study, hard work, parental support and God's blessings.Though the results were announced on Monday, the news reached his school, Kendriya Vidyalaya, in Adoor only on Tuesday29th May,2012.
“We guessed that the third topper's name mentioned in Tuesday's The Hindu as ‘Joseph Samuel from Kerala' might be our own student, and we confirmed the happy news with the CBSE authorities later,” Principal R. Reghunathan said.Joseph Samuel scored 493 marks out of 500, with 100 each in Physics and Chemistry, 99 each in Mathematics and Computer Science and 95 in English. The first rank went to a student who scored 495 and the second to a score of 494. Joseph Samuel of Kaippallil House at Kulanada, near Pandalam, is the second son of Jose D. Kaippallil, Associate Professor of Chemistry at St. Berchmans College, Changanassery, and Mary P. Samuel, employee of South Indian Bank, Pandalam. His brother, Joseph Daniel, is a B.Tech. (Electronics and Communications) student at the College of Engineering of Institute of Human Resources Development in Chengannur.
Joseph Samuel wants to pursue higher studies in his favourite subject, Computer Science. He has cleared the Joint Entrance Examination and wish to join the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. He told The Hindu that systematic coaching at Kendriya Vidyalaya, coupled with the habit of learning the lessons taught in class the same day, was the key to his success. He used to read unfailingly six to seven hours a day. He is of the opinion that the CBSE should revive the Board examinations for Class X. Joseph Samuel was the runner-up in the National Cyber Olympiad of the Science Olympiad Foundation, winning a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, in 2011. He stood second in a national-level essay contest at the Tagore Mahotsavom organised by the Kendriya Vidyalayas as part of the 151st birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in 2011. He had represented the Chennai region of Kendriya Vidyalayas in various science exhibitions.
