HILLARY CLINTON URGED
MORE ACTION FROM INDIA

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday urged India to do more to cut off Iranian oil, saying that it could be 'devastating' for the world if Tehran developed a nuclear bomb.'India... is certainly working towards lowering purchases of Iranian oil. We commend the steps they have taken thus far. We hope they will do even more,' she told an audience in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata.Clinton said that she believed there was 'adequate' supply of oil in the marketplace, including from Saudi Arabia, to make up for reductions from Iran.Responding to questions from students critical of US policy, Clinton said Iran could cause 'trouble' for India and cited allegations that Iranian agents targeted Israeli diplomats in New Delhi.

'This is a regime that has a history of aggressive behaviour and I don't think you deal with aggressors by giving in to them,' Clinton said.'Israel is very worried that if Iran were to get a nuclear weapon there might be a decision by some future leader to actually use it, and that would be devastating,' she said. But Clinton said that the United States wanted a peaceful solution and pointed to efforts by President Barack Obama early in his term to reach out to the Iranian people.
