KERALA SEEKS 500MW ELECTRICITY FROM KOODANKULAM

KERALA SEEKS 500MW ELECTRICITY FROM KOODANKULAM

Chief minister Oommen Chandy has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide 500 MW electricity from Koodankulam project for Kerala. Earlier, TN CM Jayalalithaa had told the written to PM seeking complete allotment of electricity produced from the plant to TN. In her letter Jayalalitha said that Kerala does not need electricity from Koodankulam. The states are given electricity from central plants as per Gadgil formula. Kerala has the right to get 13 % from each such plant. As per this, Kerala is eligible for 266 MW. The power from NTPC Kayamkulam is costly, so Kerala can't purchase it from there. In such condition due to acute power crisis, CM asked to allot 300 MW more from the Koodankulam project. Kerala seeks to allot it in `Unallocated ' option, which is being allocated to states facing power crisis.

TN in its letter said that Kerala is not willing to transfer power and they have no electrical line too. But Chandy denied this saying that a special package will be formed to take over land to construct lines and will be implemented soon.
