PRATHIBHA PURASKARAM

The Kerala Press Academy is honouring five senior mediapersons with ‘Prathibha Puraskaram' for their exemplary service to journalism.The winners of the award are B.R.P. Bhaskar, K.G. Parameshwaran Nair, G. Priyadarshan, T.V. Achutha Varrier and M.P. Poulose. The awards will be presented by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at a function to be held at Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on April 25, a press release said. The Prathibha Puraskaram is given once during the tenure of the respective administrative council of the academy. Babu Rajendraprasad Bhaskar or B.R.P. Bhaskar started his career in journalism in 1952 and has worked in The Hindu, Statesman, Patriot, UNI, Deccan Herald and Asianet. He played an instrumental role in the launch of Asianet television channel. Post-retirement, he has been active in the socio-political scene of Kerala, especially in the field of human rights protection.

K.G. Parameswaran Nair worked for Kerala Kaumudi for 35 years since 1963. He had the opportunity to report major political events in the State ever since the time of the second Legislative Assembly. He has penned a book, ‘Kerala Legislative Assembly: History and Ethics.' T.V. Achutha Varrier started his career in 1953 and has worked in Thrissur Express, Deenabandhu and Punyabhoomi. He is known for his deep knowledge in environmental issues and was a sports editor for 12 years. After retirement from active journalism, he became the editor of the environmental journal ‘Ore Bhoomi, Ore Jeevan.' G. Priyadarshan, a noted media historian in Malayalam, was the executive editor of Yoganadam monthly and had worked in the research division of Malayala Manorama since 1985. He is the author of more than a dozen media research works besides literature studies and biographies. He continues to write for Janayugam, Malayala Manorama, Sahitya Chakravalam, Vijnana Kairali, Bhashaposhini and many other publications.M.P. Poulose worked as a photographer in Mathrubhumi for 35 years. He has won the State government's award for best photographer many times, the release said.
