KERALA TO OPEN 10,000 NANMA STORES
 IN NEXT 5 YEARS

The Kerala government is planning to open 10,000 Nanma stores, aimed at selling essential commodities, including rice, sugar and coconut oil at 20 per cent discount throughout the year, in the next five years.Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation Limited (Consumerfed) Managing Director Dr Reji G Nair today said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would formally launch Nanma stores, the network of India's first non-subsidised cooperative public distribution system being floated by the Consumerfed here on April 18.

'Primary cooperatives would start 1,500 Nanma stores across the State. Apart from this, 220 would be run through the existing Triveni shops, another 280 directly under the Consumerfed, in the first phase,' he said.The network would be would be expanded to 10,000 stores in the next five years. Initially, 10 essential commodities would be on sale at 20 per cent discounted rates, he said.
