ENRICA LEXIE ALLOWED TO LEAVE

ENRICA LEXIE ALLOWED TO LEAVE
The Kerala High Court on Thursday,29th March,2012, ordered the police to allow Italian ship Enrica Lexie, from which marines had opened fire killing two Indian fishermen, to leave the port on certain conditions. HC ordered that the ship owners must submit a bond of Rs 3 crore. The owners must fully cooperate with the probe, HC told. The order also asks to present captain and employees in the ship as and when the investigation team demands. On Wednesday the Kerala government informed the high court that a decision on whether Italian ship Enrica Lexie, from which marines had opened fire killing two Indian fishermen, can be allowed to sail depends on the forensic report of the firearms seized from the ship.

Counsel for the government said that a decision can be taken only after the forensic report comes in two days' time.'Once the report comes, then the state government will be in a position to take a decision whether the ship can be allowed to leave,' said the counsel.Meanwhile, counsel of the ship's owners, Dolphin Tankers, told the court that the company is incurring a huge expenditure with the ship restrained here and it should be allowed to leave as they are fully cooperating with the investigation. Two fishermen, Ajesh Binki, 25, and Gelastine, 45, were allegedly mistaken as pirates and shot dead by marines aboard the Italian cargo vessel Feb 15, off Alappuzha. Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone were later picked up from vessel Enrica Lexie and sent to jail Feb 20 on murder charges by a court in Kollam. Currently they are lodged at the Central Prison in the state capital. They have been put in a separate room in the jail.

I now understand why our Government appears so confused all the time and why they appear to commit the blunders that they do. All you do called "patriots" and "guardians of national pride" first sail on a ship and then comment. All us sailors feel betrayed by the indifference displayed towards us by our own country and Government. Sail through pirate infested waters first and then you may understand. We brave far worst elements and stay away from our kin and family to earn a living, and to add to it now we can be put in a prison anywhere in the world for any action just for political leverage. First be us then you may talk about us. If someone were to lay his eyes on your property, you would do all it takes to try to protect it. We are alone out there, we do the same. There is no 911 or 100 that we can call. Help arrives always too late. Think about that before you point fingers and blame people.
