DOCUMENTARY ON THE THE HISTORY OF NEYYATTINKARA

The Neyyattinkara educational sub-district of the General Education Department in association with the Public Relations Department is releasing a documentary on the history of Neyyattinkara. Devaswom and Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar will release the documentary titled ‘Mudra' at Neyyattinkara on Wednesday.Directed by Radhakrishnan Kuvalassery, a school teacher, the documentary chronicles many unknown facets of Neyyattinkara, including important places, events and illustrious personalities from the region.“While students are taught world history and the history of the State and country, they are mostly unaware of the history and heritage of their local town or village. This documentary is an attempt at introducing the rich history of Neyyattinkara to the students of schools here,” said District Education Officer Valsala Bhas in a statement..
The project, taken up by a group of teachers and students of the Neyyattinkara educational sub-district was completed in two years.The script is by Joy Balan Vlathaankara and Radhakrishnan Kuvalassery. Biju Karakkonam is the cinematographer and assistant director.Famous personalities who hailed from Neyyattinkara, including ‘Dilli Gandhi' Thirumangalam C. Krishnan Nair, Communist leader N.C. Shekhar, Gandhian and social reformer G. Ramachandran, Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, scholar B. Vivekanandan, poet Madhusoodhanan Nair, award-winning young scientist S.K. Satheesh, film director Lenin Rajendran, yesteryear actress Neyyattinkara Komalam, musicians Neyyattinkara Vasudevan and Parassala B. Ponnamal and danseuse/actors Travancore sisters have also been featured in the documentary.‘Pandavan Para' believed to be having 5,000-year-old human inscriptions, the unfinished cave temple constructed by the rulers of the Ay kingdom at Vizhinjam, Anantha Victoria Marthandan Canal constructed during the British rule and Neyyattinkara's first library ‘Njanapradayini' are some of the historic relics chronicled in the documentary. The launch of the documentary will be held at Madhavi Mandiram, the house where Mahatma Gandhi had spent a day.
