K.J YESUDAS HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR THE FIRST HARIVARSANAM AWARD-2012

Play back Singer and classical vocalist K.J Yesudas has been chosen for the first Harivarsanam award of the Travancore Devaswom Board. Besides his valuable contribution to music, yesudas’s dedication to secular values was also taken in to account while choosing him for the honour,The award, comprising cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a citation, would be presented to the singer on April 14, the Vishu Day.

'Harivarasanam' is a devotional song recited at Lord Ayyappa temple here before closing every night.The song was written by Kambamgudi Kulathur Iyer and Swami Vimochanananda sang it for the first time at Sabarimala.Though many versions of this song had been sung by many renowned vocalists, the Sabarimala temple played the rendition of K J Yesudas every evening after the final pooja.
