Socialist Janata state president MP Veerendrakumar said that Mullaperiyar issue must be sorted out amicably and there shouldn't be a situation of unrest between the two states. The issue affects four districts in Kerala and 6 in Tamil Nadu. In a press meet held in Kuwait on 13th December,2011, he said the people of Kerala are reacting sharply not against TN but as it is a life-threatening issue. It is not possible to construct a new dam within a year so the water level must be lowered immediately. TN must re-examine its stand, as it was not willing to participate in the talks and did not allow experts to visit dam. It should be viewed as a national issue not as a regional one. He said his party is satisfied over the stand taken by the Kerala government.
