INDIA’S FIRST WOMEN ZONE TO COME UP AT KOZHIKODU

INDIA’S FIRST WOMEN ZONE
TO COME UP AT KOZHIKODU

As part of the state government's efforts to empower women, an entire five and half acres of land at Vellimadukunnu has been earmarked to set up an exclusive park for women. Named 'Thantedam' which could be read as 'thante edam' meaning 'my place' and also as 'courage'  the park would be the first of its kind in the country. The estimated cost of the park, which would be set up in the plot presently under the Social Welfare Department, is Rs 50 crore. On completion of the project, it would truly be a 'woman's world' complete with research centres, training units, cultural venues, performance stages, writers' village, health clubs, help desk, museum, convention centres etc. The park would also house rehabilitation units for isolated women. Various training programmes conducted for women government employees would also be held here.Media lab, yet another highlight of the project, would be an ideal ground to analyse media intervention in issues related to women. A business incubation centre that provides regular training sessions so as to equip women to earn a living and collaborative ventures on women empowerment involving foreign professionals, are also under consideration. Men folk would have access only to area marked as open to all. The project, to be realised with technological and professional support of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, would be under an autonomous body.
