BHAGAVATH PANDIT MALLIYOOR
SANKARAN NAMPOOTHIRI
Bhagavatha pandit Bhagavathahamsam Malliyoor Sankaran Nampoothiri passed away at his house in Kuruppanthara on Tuesday,2ndAugust,2011, morning. He was 90. He was ailing for some period with old age diseases. He has dedicated his humble life to the worship of Lord Ganapathy and to the rendering and exposition of the Bhagavatham. He was born on February 2, 1921 as son of Malliyoor Parameswaran Nampoothiri and Arya Antharjanam. His navathi was celebrated on January 31. His Bhagavatham sessions are renowned for their blend of simplicity and erudition, attracting thousands of devotees. He was awarded the title Bhagavatha Hamsam, having successfully completed 2,500 Bhagavatha Sapthas. He also awarded the 'Poothanam Puraskaram' instituted by the Akhila Bharatha Sree Guruvayoorappan Bhaktha Samithi and 'Dharmashreshta puraskara' by Kerala Barahmana Sabha.His wife is late Subhadra Antharjanam , daughter of Mezhathoor Arappanattubhattathiri . His children are Parameshwaran Nampoothiri, Aryadevi, Parvathi Devi, Divakaran Nampoothiri.
