KERALA URGED TO SET UP
COUNCIL FOR PHYSIOTHERAPY
The Indian Association of Physiotherapists urged the Kerala government to set up an independent council for physiotherapy in the state. "It is sad to note that Kerala does not have a government physiotherapy college whereas other states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have multiple colleges for physiotherapy," Association president Dr Ali Irani said at a press meet here. He noted that 10 per cent of physiotherapists all over the world were from India and that many Keralites are also into this area.
Kerala Association of Physiotherapists Co-ordination state president Sreejith Nambbodiri was also present at the meet. The Association had placed various demands before the state government, including compulsory registration for physiotherapists, setting up of specialist physiotherapy units in medical colleges, revision in wages of physiotherapists and formation of sports physiotherapy units at district level, he said.
