                   TRIBUTE PAID TO A SUJANAPAL

      The Former Minister and Congress leader A Sujanapal died on Thursday, 23rd June,2011. He was 62. He had been under treatment of cancer. Mr Sujanapal is survived by wife and two children. Though identified with the Congress party, he has had a large number circle of friends and his public contacts cut across political lines because of his forays in to the cultural and Literary fields, where he had made a mark as an author of travelogues and as a painter.
  A large number of people from all walks of life turned up tp pay their last respects at his residence, where his body draped in the party flag was kept through out the day. Among them were union Minister of the state for Home Mullappally Ramachandran former Minister P. Sankaran, M.K Raghavan.
   Mr Sujanapal wwas born on February1, 1949 in Kozhikodu as the son of freedom fighter A.Balagopal and Anandalakshmi.. He entered politics through the Kerala students union and rose up the congress ladder quickly to hold many important party posts, both at the district and the state level. He was president of the Kozhikodu DCC and was general secretary and treasurer of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee at different times. He became MLA on two occasions, making his debut when he was elected to the ninth Kerala Assembly in 1991 from Kozhikodu. He was again from the same constituency in the election to 11th Assembly in 2001. Among the posts he held was chairman of the committee on private members Bills and Resolutions during 2001-2005.
   Mr Sujanapal's political career reached its high point when he became Minister for Forests and Environment in the previous United Democratic Front Ministry headed by Oomman Chandy on January,2006.
   He was president of several cultural organizations such as the S.K Pottekkad Memorial Cultural Center, Kozhikodu, and the Calicut Arts Society. Mr Sujanapal traveled widely. He represented the congress and the Kerala government in several international conferences and events.
    A  gifted writer, he had authored books based on his travels. Poruthunna Palestine, Berlin Mathilukal, Monnam Lokam and Gandhism Erupathonnam Nuttandil. Mr Sujanapal was front line leader in the campaign to protect Mangroves
    Sujanapal was cremated with state honours at the public crematorium on mavoor Road at 1 p.m on Friday. His son Manu gopal,lit the funderal pyre. Thousands of people paid homage to the popular leader.
    Kurakar Cultural Forum conducted a condolence meeting at Kurakar Town Center on Saturday,25th at 5.pm. Prof. John Kurakar, Mr Bobby Kurakar, Mr Sabu Yohannan, Mr Varghese Varghese, Mr
Sam Kurakar, Mr Radhakrishan, Mr Manu Kurakar were spoke on the condolence meeting.
