1.20 lakh students opt out of govt schools
According to DPI reports, there has been a fall of 1, 20,000 students in government schools in state. The statistics was based on the conventional headcount on the sixth day after the schools reopened. Palakkad district topped in the decline of students by 20,000 and Thrissur recorded a moderate fall. The headcount was done in govt aided and unaided schools in the state. In Aided Schools alone, 90,000 student shortage was reported. Though last year 1, 15,159 students have opted out of govt schools, this year the number has increased with the govt deciding to give approval to new CBSE and ICSE schools. With the fall in the number of students, the teacher student ratio may also suffer. Presently 45:1 is the student teacher ratio. Many academic circles have demanded a ratio of 30:1 as per the Central Education rule.
