AQUATIC BIO PARK TO COME UP IN KOZHIKODU
Malabar Botanic Garden Society at Olavana has prepared an ambitious scheme to develop an aquatic bio park on 15 acres of vacant land. The lead garden project is awaiting final approval from the ministry of Environment and Forests. Mr .R Prakash kumar joint Director, Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment said the wet land development project was aimed at creating a national level conservatory of aquatic plants.
The aquatic bio park would come up alongside a museum complex, medicinal plant garden, and collection of terrestrial plants. The project involves the development of a 5.6 acre artificial lake with pockets of aquatic plants along the periphery, a mangrove zone, marshy land, landscaped grounds with expansive lawns and tree plantations and a demonstration area for exhibition of freshwater and saline algae.
It envisages the establishment of model interpretation centers to educate visitors on the importance of the wet land ecosystem. They have selected 15 acres of vacant paddy land to set up the park. The focus is on creating the conservatory and Eco-education. The society has also given shape to a scheme to provide school children with a unique experience at the facility named Bionidhi, the scheme involves a one -day attachment at the park for children from schools in Kozhikode city
