The Pallipana festival, which is celebrated once in every 12 years. Malanada temple is one of the important temple in Kollam district. Adaveeshwara puja, Peedabali, Ninabali,Panchabhoothbali, Dikkubali,Kushibali,Pattadabali, Sapthabali, Navabali, Azhibali, Sarvaishwarya puja, and Kombubali would be held in Malanada temple as the part of the festival.
Malanada temple is dedicated to Kurava King Duryodhana, who is worshipped as Malayapoopan'. But, the temple does not have an idol for the presiding deity. Devotees belive that Duryodhana, who went in search of the Pandavas during the latter's exile, got lost in the dense forests of Malanada. Local people apparently found an exhausted Duryodhana and gave him food and shelter. Till this day,the head priest of the temple is from the same community. Toddy is the most important offering .
