WIND ASSOCIATION

                                                   WIND ASSOCIATION

Indian small Wind Association (INSWA) was officially formed on Friday 8th April, 2011. The aim of the association is to promote the small wind and solar compliant systems and to represent wind and wind- solar hybrid manufactures, system integrators and service providers.
The association would act as a catalyst for development of policy,  standards and guidelines by interacting with the ministry concerned and state nodal agencies to maximize deployment of small wind energy systems .
Launching the logo of the association, secretary General, Global Wind Energy Council said there was a huge opportunity to attract venture capital in to this sector as there were many such funds in California keen to invest in such ventures. The small wind farms will have a big role to play in managing energy shortage and get the commercial value.

Dear Professor,
I,m sure you are aware of the fact that VAWTs are getting popular in several States in U.S as wind power generators for individual homes.
VAWTs in the Kilowatt range may also be included for promotion by the INSWA as they offer the advantage of distributed power generation for a single high rise building ( when installed on the terrace ) or a small community (group of such buildings). Probably they may not require site acquistion or clearance as they wud be owned by the residents Association and used by them for common facilities. They operate in wind fm any direction. They can be custom built for very low windspeed or high wind speed regions.
Actually, I'm in the process of building one (less than a kiliwatt) not for commercial exploitation or export market but for our vilages where the grid does not reach or a heavy bribe has to be paid to get a connection . In my experience, the alternator (or the 3 ph PMG) is the costliest component and the concerned Ministry has to permit OGL import of some components for the same.

Best Regards,
