     Puthuppally Perunnal, the annual feat of St. Geroge will be celebrated at the St. Geroge Orthodox Church, Puthuppally from April 28 to May 7, 2011. The church, which was declared an oriental Georgian Pilgrim Centre by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, was built in 1750.
     the celebration leading up to the annual feast will commence with the hoisting of the ceremonial flag on April 28 that is usually witnessed by a large number of local residents who belong to various faiths.  The two arecanut tree trunks that will be brought from trunks that will be brought from the village of Puthuppally and Ericade in a grand procession will serve as the flag masts of the festival. Kottarakara-Punalur Diocese Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Theodoros will hoist the flags during the occasion.
    A public meeting that will be attended by church leaders and cultural personalities will be held later in the day. High points of the festival are the rituals that resemble those conducted in the temples. During the Virakideel' ritual that will be conducted on May 6, parishioners will compete amongst each other in collecting and bringing firewood to the church. the fire wood meant for cooking the meals for the Vechootu' to be offered to believers  on May 7,the pinnacle of the Puthuppally Perunnal.
