                                                         KOLLAM POORAM


   Houndreads of people,including foreign tourists, witnessed the colourful Kollam pooram festivities organised in connection with the annual festival of the Asramam Sree Krishna swami temple at Asramam Maidan,Kollam on Saturday 17th April,2011. Fifteen elephants each from the Thamrakulam Sree Mahganapathy temple and the Puthiyakavu Sree Bhagavathy temple.
   The Kudamattom ( switching of ornamental umbrellas) ceremony had the gathering all excited. The people cheered each time a new set of ornamental umbrellas was displayed. The Melam was by two teams  led by Peruvananam Kuttan Marar and Cheranallur Sankaran kutty marar. the festivities began earlier in the day with elephant processions arriving from various temples in the city at the Sree Krishna Swami temple. The elephant were given a ceremonial bath on the temple premises and treated to a sumptuous meal of fruits and sweets. The Pooram festivities reached a climax with a dazzling display of pyrotechnics.
