   The Holy Week 2011 of the world began on Sunday,17th April,2011 with processions and traditional rituals commemorating Palm Sunday. The week culminates in Easter, which the faithful celebrate as the day Jesus Christ is believed to have risen from the dead.
    Churches all over the world saw huge attendance of the faithful on Sunday. Believers took out processions carrying palm fronds a symbol of triumph. Many display them at their homes as a mark of their faith.
   As per the Gospels, Palm Sunday signifies the " triumphant entry of Jesus Christ in to the city of Jerusalam five days before his crucification. Another important day of the Holy week is Maundy Thursday, commemorating the last supper of Jesus Christ with apostles.
  The palm Sunday was celebrated with religious fervour at various churches on Sunday. Special services for Palm Sunday were held at various churches in the state in the morning. Processions of believers carrying Palm fronds were a major part of the special services. Bishop of Kottarakara- Punalur Yuhanon Mar Thevodhorus, was the chief celebrant of the palm Sunday service at the Ayppalloor Salem Orthodox church, Archbishop Thomas Mar Coorilose,led the service at the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Mathews Mar Theodosius Metropolita of Idukki diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,led the service at the Parumala  church.
