                                                R. Balakrishna pillai can contest polls

    K. B  Ganesh Kumar,MLA and Kerala Congress(B) acting chairman, has said that as per legal opinion,  Mr. R Balakrishnapillai though in jail, could contest the April 13 Assembly elections. The name of the party's candidate from Kottarakara would be announced simultaneously with the congress announcing its list of candidates.  Balakrishna Pillai would decide who the candidate would be in his traditional seat. The Home Department has rejected the parole application of Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishnapillai who is in jail on a one-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment in the Edamalayar corruption case. Mr Pillai had sought 10 days parole on the ground that his presence was needed for the medical treatment of his wife. However, the government observed that the disease of Mr Pillai's wife was not serious enough to justify the granting of parole. The jail authorities had earlier forwarded his application to the Home Department with recommendation for granting the parole.
Communist party of India (Marxist) state secretary has said that at former minister R. Balakrishna pillai , at present jail, has no legal right to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections. He said, However Mr Pillai contesting the elections would be an open challenge to the legal system of the country. Dr N.N Murali will be the party's dummy candidate in Kottarakara.
