MINI VAN FALLS IN TO CANAL 5 NURSERY SCHOOL CHILDREN DROWNED


        Five nursery school children and their caretaker drowned when the Minivan in which they were traveling lost control and plunged in to the heavily polluted Parvathi puthanar canal at Karikakam,Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday morning 17th February,2011. Local people and the police rescued five children and admitted them to hospitals..
    the deceased were K.S Achu, Jinnan Azimudeen, Ujval Shabu, Arsha Baiju and Malavika, all aged four, and their care taker Bindu,28.
     The tragedy occurred at 9.22 am. When the Maruti Omni van was returning to the Little Hearts Nursery at near by Pettah after picking up the children. The overloaded vehicle sped along the narrow road abutting the canal, struck a protruding root of a tree, flew off the motorway and plunged in to the middle of the polluted canal.  Investigations said the van was not registered as a school vehicle, its driver was inexperienced.
