KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT BANNED ENDOSULFAN USE

The state government of Karnataka on Thursday 17th February,2011 banned the use of Endosulfan with immediate effect. This has been a long -pending demand of the people of Dakshin Kannada,Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts. The Cabinet discussed the harmful effects of Endosulfan. The government would now invoke the provisions of the insecticides Act of 1968 and write a detailed letter to the union government with reference to the ban. the people of Karnataka and Kerala thankful to the chief minster B.S Yeddyurappa and the members of the cabinet for approving the ban.It is unfortunate that the union government is still bending to the lobby of Endosulfan manufactures. Prime Minister Manmohan singh should intervene in the matter.Kerala was the first state to ban Endosulfan,on October 31,2006.
