The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary- India is a congregation of women Religious coming from different countries and living in international and intercultural communities. The institute of Missionaries of Mary was founded on 6th January 1877.It was affiliated to the Franciscan Order in 1882, and since then, has been known as the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary - FMM. The congregation serves in the health care, education, pastoral care, social work and social communication ministries. The social communication team offers many services to women and children by conducting media awareness sessions in schools, colleges and formation houses.
The women disciples striving to live in complete, total and joyful availability like Mary mother of Jesus; through contemplation of the Incarnate Son Jesus we Endeavour to discover the compassionate face of the Father and through our services to the needy, the least and the lost, manifest that same love to all peoples. In the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi we journey with our brothers and sisters in the simplicity and joy of Gospel living.
Blessed Mary of the Passion our Foundress was a visionary who understood the pain that women who are poor and illiterate faced in a man’s world. This understanding impelled her to search for ways and means of restoring meaning and dignity to the lives of women. Her insight led her to open educational institutions, health-care services and set up small income-generating works for women. Empowered with basic education and employment the women would be able to take their rightful place in society. Today we continue her vision through our services in the fields of education, health care and social work.
Her farsightedness in establishing a printing press in the 19th century itself, as a means of sharing news and views with the wider public has set the trend for us to utilize the potent means of the media to communicate the compassionate face of God to all peoples. Through our website we offer news of FMM through our module ‘We Share’; we offer an opportunity to pray for the needs of the world, of our country and for the raising of our moral quality through our section ‘Prayer’. Do you have a special need to pray for? Post your prayer in our ‘Prayer Request’ section. Our sisters, our associates and various others will join you in praying for your need.
