K C KOSHY'S BOOK" BAMBOOS AT TBGRI"

  Kerala Chief Minister released a book titled "BAMBOOS AT TBGRI" . This book is authored by Mr K.C Koshy scientist, Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute,Palodu. The book is the documents of the rich live collections of various bamboo species in the bambusetum on the Tropical Botanic Garden at Palode near Thiruvananthapuam. the Bambusetum is a gene bank conservation area for various bamboo species.
    Mr K.C Koshy collected 933 accessions of bamboos. Collection started in 1989. The bamboo collections has grown in to one of the largest in India with 933 accessions spread over an area of 6.59 hectare. This includes species and accessions mostly from the western Ghats, a sizable number from the North Eastern states, and a few from abroad, all of which were acclimatised in the bambusetum.
   The "BAMBOOS Book provides a picture of genetic resources of bamboos available at Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute.It is expected to be useful tool for policy makers, taxonomists, breeders,horticulturists and landscape architects, and for future bamboo development activities in the country.
