Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has called upon Ayurvedic pharmaceutical companies to adhere a good manufacturing practices stipulated by the union government.
He was addressing a meeting at Kuttanellur in Thrissur on Tuesday 4th January,2011 to lay the foundation stone for the center of Excellence for Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals in India at the state government owned"Oushadhi".
" In the past 10 years, the Department of Ayush has supported manufacturers and laboratories in producing quality drugs. It has provided Rs117.46 crore for this. The funds made available to the department of Ayush have increased from Rs 488 in 2007-08 to Rs 888 crore in 2010-2011, Minister said.
the Union government had expanded infrastructure for growth of ayurveda, set up a council for research in to the Siddha system, developed a scheme for voluntary certification to assure quality of drugs, and launched projects to research on diseases such as Cancer, diabetes, and Chikungunya.
Under the National Rural Health mission, 7,993 ayurvedic doctors and 3232 paramedics have been posted under contract at primary and community health centers. The Department of Ayush has supported 1,946 primary health centers, 260 community health centers and 83 district hospitals during the 11th five year plan. The minister also inaugurated Jubilee Hrudayalaya at Jubilee Mission medical College and Research Institute in Thrissur
