ADOPT ECO-FRIENDLY FARMING

Kerala Chief Minister called the Farmers to adopt environment friendly Farming like organic farming, natural farming in the drive to step up producation of vegetables and fruits.
Kerala dependence on neighbouring states for horticulture produce had exposed its people to harmful chemicals used by farmers elsewhere.
'Despite the availability of fertile land, water, conductive climate and manpower resources, We have to depend on  other states  for fruits, vegetables and even flowers. Farmers use chemical fertilizers and pesticides indiscriminately. The consumption of crops treated with these hazardous chemicals has led to death and  diseases in Kerala. The solution is to produce fruits and vegetables to meet our requirements.
Chief Minister said the government had launched the project to bring the whole state under organic farming in 10 years."The vengeri model of farming has proved to be successful. Paddy cultivation has been introduced in 60,000 acres and vegetable cultivation has been stepped up. The Kerala state would have a long way to go in achieving self sufficiency in producation of vegetables.
