PARUMALA IS A SYMBOL OF RELIGIOUS HARMONY AND COMMUNAL AMITY PREVAILING IN THE STATE
Thousands of people offered prayers at the tomb of St. Gregorios,the first canonized Indian saint, at St. Pauls and St. Peter’s church,parumala, on the banks of pampa on Sunday 31st October,2010.
Believers under took the annual pilgrimage to the saint’s tomb by foot. Pilgrim processions coming from different parts of the state. Pilgrims offered prayers and lit candles at the Saint’s tomb. Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos,senior Metropolitan,led the holy Eucharist at the seminary chapel.
A cultural meet was held at noon as part of the 108th feast of St. Gregorios. The former chief Justice of Patna High court Benjamin Koshy inaugurated the meet. In his inaugural address Mr Benjamin Koshy stressed the need to spread the message of love and goodness in this age of social chaos. He said Parumala is a symbol oof religious harmony and communal amity prevailing in the state.
The church town of Parumala is all set for the ceremonial enthronement of Paulose Mar Milithios as Cathlicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan on Monday 1st November,2010.
This is the third consecutive time that parumala is witnessing the enthronement of the head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church since 1991 and the fourth consecutive enthronement following the abdication of the throne by the incumbent Catholicos owing to old age and bad health.
The outgoing 90 year old Catholicos, Baselious Mar Thoma Didymus 1,had expressed his desire to abdicate at a special synod of the church held in Kottayam on Friday 29th October,2010,which decided to install the 64 year old Catholicos designate Paulose Mar Milithios as his successor.
