KERALA LOCAL BODY ELECTION-2010
The first stage of polling for the local body elections in the state (The seven districts) going to the polls on Saturday 23rd October, 2010. The districts that go to the first stage are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The highest number of votes among the seven districts is in Thiruvananthapuram 26.68 Lakhs and the lowest number is in Wayanad 5.39 Lakh voters. As many as 16,390 booths have been set up in these districts.
Electronics voting machines are being used in municipalities and corporations. In the three-tier local bodies, white ballot papers are used for Granma panchayat wards and pink ballots for block panchayat wards and blue ballots for district panchayat divisions.
As much as 75.72 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in the first stage of the local body elections held in seven districts. Barring stray incidents of violence and booth capturing in Kannur district, the polling passed off peacefully. According to available estimates Waynad recorded the highest polling 81.1 percent, and Thiruvananthapuram the lowest 67.35 percent.
