INDIAN RAILWAY’S SALUTE TO
RABINDRANATH TAGORE
A special train of Indian Railways (Sanskriti Express) to commemorate 150 th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore will arrive Thiruvananthapuram on Friday 15th October,2010 for a six day visit to the state.
The five-coach train that showcases the life and philosophy of the poet was flagged off from Rail Museum,Howrah,on may9,2010.The exhibition will be open for public between 10 am to 8 pm.Admission will be free.
The first coach named’Jibon Smriti’ depicts the life of Tagore through photographs,his reminiscences,about Shantiniketan and about Sriniketan.
The second coach’ Gitanjali’ exhibits his poems and songs. The third coach’Muktodhara’ has on display Rabindra Literature,prose,essays, novels,plays and dance dramas by Tagore.
‘Chitrarekha’ the fourth coach has paintings of Tagore. Works of other renowned artists like Nandalal Bose, Abanindranath Tagore,GaganendranathTagore,Binod Behari, Ramkinker Bej, Sanayani Devi and Sudhir Khastagir are also exhibited in this coach.
‘Seshkatha’ the fifth coach features photgraphs of Tagore’s last journey and the last days of his life and described by his near and dear ones and poems written during his last days.
This coach also has a section called’Smaranika’ which is an exibition and sale of handicrafts from santiniketan, photo print and hand writing of Tagore,ceramia pots and ornaments,gift cards printed by the committee on Hertitage and culture and books by Tagore. The train visit around 100 rail way stations in India.
